When I was in high school, my friends and I used to attend as many music events as possible: gigs, backyard shows, some big concerts, etc. "Growing up", somehow we lost the time to do a lot of the fun things we would do. I made a vow to myself last year that I would make more time to attend live shows. I love music and never go a day without listening to it. I've been lucky to attend a few great events and look forward to attending more.
This last weekend, I won some free tickets to see Grace Potter at the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood. I've been to this venue before and it's really nice and even has a rooftop lounge area where you can get some good views of Hollywood Blvd. I had actually never heard of Grace Potter nor any of her music, but I'm glad I went to her show. It was just downright amazing! The light show was a bit much - too many lights moving too fast, I thought I was at a rave for a minute - but she knows how to put on a show! Her vocals were great and she had the right amount of energy to keep her fans going. I love artists like her; so passionate about their music and engaging with their crowd.
I'm excited for the upcoming shows I have planned, at least one each month throughout the end of the year. This coming weekend is a big closeout to the summer music festivals in Los Angeles. FYF Fest's two-day long musical explosion has me grinning with excitement to see such great acts like: Morrisey, Purity Ring, Neon Indian, Bloc Party, Health and a few others. Also, not to mention the amazing eateries that will be catering their delicious fares.
Next month is reserved for Empire of the Sun and October (my birthday month) is devoted to seeing Garbage (my all-time favorite band) and Passion Pit. Haven't booked anything for November or December but I'm keeping my calendar opened to see who's coming into town.
We definitely get caught up with work, school and just life in general, but sometimes we have to reap the rewards of working hard. With all this said, just make time for what you love!
